Carnival Paradise

Carnival Paradise in Ensenada, Mexico.

Every vacation is a tropical delight aboard the Carnival Paradise, one of the eight Fantasy-class vessels in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet of modern megaships. Understanding just what this ship offers can help passengers decide if it is right for their next cruise vacation.

About the Carnival Paradise

The Paradise is the eighth and last vessel in the Fantasy class line of Carnival cruise ships, and she was built in 1998. Initially the Paradise was intended as the world's first completely non-smoking vessel, and violations to that policy carried stiff penalties including fines and early debarkation. To make the Paradise more available to all travelers, however, that policy was discontinued in December, 2003. Today the ship has a limited number of smoking areas on board, fewer than most large vessels.

By the numbers, the ship is 855 feet long and has 10 public decks for passengers to enjoy. Her 1,026 staterooms include a range of cruise ship cabin options such as interior, porthole, ocean view, balcony, and suite accommodations, with a dual-occupancy capacity of 2,052 passengers. The 920 crew members represent more than 50 different nationalities and offer superior service and hospitality - the Paradise is frequently rated as among one of the best ships in the fleet for service and friendliness.

The Paradise is decorated in a rich, eclectic manner with elegant dark woods and copper fittings. LED lighting in the atrium and promenade areas provides a stunning contrast to traditional décor, and small accent lighting is incorporated into panels and beams throughout the ship. Teal egg-shaped accents adorn the atrium area, and smaller niches throughout the ship are decorated with brightly colored, nautically-themed art deco pieces, while the stateroom corridors are more subtly outfitted with monochrome panels depicting other fine ships and seagoing scenes.

Public Areas

There are multiple public areas for passengers to enjoy aboard the Paradise, including:

  • Normandie Lounge: This is the ship's main lounge and the location of elaborate stage productions, bingo games, and other activities.
  • Bars: The America Bar, U.S. Bar, and Rotterdam Bar all offer intimate socializing opportunities and live music.
  • Blue Riband Library: A more sedate hideaway, this niche features models of many ships as well as an extensive book and game library for passengers to enjoy.
  • Dining Rooms: Guests are assigned to either of the two main dining rooms, the Elation Dining Room in the fore of the ship or Destiny Dining Room in the aft of the ship. For more casual dining, passengers can visit the Paris Restaurant located aft on the Lido Deck, while room service is available 24 hours a day.
  • Queen Mary Lounge: This aft lounge is the site of the regular art auctions as well as late night, adults-only comedy routines and other activities.
  • Rex: This high-tech dance club features textured walls, LED-lit floors, and more than two dozen monitors for music videos and karaoke contests.
  • Café Ile de France: Pastries, specialty coffees, shakes, and other treats are available for purchase at this ala carte café on the Promenade Deck.

  • Galleria Shopping Mall: Fine jewelry, rare liquors, and a wide range of souvenirs are available in this shopping mall near the Normandie Lounge, or guests can also visit the Formalities Shop or discount boutique on the Promenade Deck.
  • Children's Areas: The Camp Carnival children's area of the ship is staffed with experienced counselors and offers a wide range of fun activities, crafts, and games. Teens will prefer Club O2, a trendier club just for them.
  • Spa Carnivale: For the ultimate in pampering, passengers can indulge in massages, facials, hairstyling, teeth whitening, reflexology, body wraps, and more.

In addition to these public areas, the Carnival Paradise offers many other features, including:
